We hold rallies on the first and third Saturday. Because that pledge of “indivisible for liberty and justice for all” meant something to some of us and we choose to stand for our pledge.
Meetings
-Group reporting and planning
We hold monthly meetings where the leadership reports what it is doing, gives the people who attend a vote on where the groups stands for any policies or issues, and leadership listens to what the attendees think is the most important thing going forward. Our meetings are on the second Friday of each month at 5:30 at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church 1290 Thompson Rd, Coos Bay, OR 97420, USA
-Advocacy
We participate in Advocacy with a partner organization SCHEC. We meet twice monthly to report on activity, research, schedule, and organize all types of events and activities to help those in the community. Email welcome@coosindivisible.org if you would like to join.
Campaigns
-Get the Flock out of North Bend
We are currently participating in a Get the Flock Out of North Bend campaign. They are the first and third Monday of each month at 4:30 at the North Bend city hall. Flock is a nation wide surveillance system that when data security concerns were presented choose to call the testers who reported the issues terrorists instead of fixing the issues. Their cameras detect 150k vehicles every month in our town and LA reporting that 1/3rd of their stolen vehicle reports were falsely identified by the Flock system, how many of the 110 hotlist detected vehicles in our area were falsely identified and will lead to an interaction that would not have happened otherwise?
We are asking for the city to adopt a model bill from the ACLU that would provide Community Control Over Police Surveillance (CCOPS.) We think this bill is the best way forward to protect the rights of the people in the community as not only flock becomes more invasive in our lives but as other surveillance systems and capabilities roll out. This is not the first way we have allowed the government to pry into our lives and it is likely not the last. Every time we trade a little of our freedom for security and end up with neither freedom or security.
