Vote NO on the Axon contract tonight
North Bend’s City Council votes at 7:00 p.m. tonight (Oct 27) on the $270,651 Axon body camera contract at City Council Chambers, 835 California Ave. This is the flyer our volunteers are passing out. Grab a copy and help us spread the word.
Why no: the contract already includes 13 license plate readers that log every car in town. It was never competitively bid – bought through a 3-year-old cooperative contract. The proposal lists dates that predate its own creation, and the city admits it needs fixing. A U.S. Senator is investigating Axon’s data practices. That is why the community has asked for CCOPS (community oversight over police surveillance) for months.
Vote NO tonight. Adopt CCOPS first.
